Marina Ibiza restores Posidonia

Marina Ibiza is actively restoring the Mediterranean through the creation of the Marina Ibiza Posidonia Meadow, a marine regeneration initiative developed in partnership with the Vellmarí Association, founded by National Geographic explorer and marine biologist Manu San Félix.Posidonia oceanica is a key Mediterranean ecosystem that produces oxygen, captures carbon, improves water quality and provides habitat for hundreds of species. Yet, around 34% of Mediterranean seagrass meadows have been lost in recent decades. As part of a large-scale restoration programme in Talamanca Bay, where nearly 50% of the original meadow has dissapeard, Marina Ibiza will plant 1,500 posidonia shoots in 2026. The marina is also engaging yacht owners, clients and visitors to sponsor additional plants, turning awareness into measurable action.Through this project, Marina ibiza moves beyond reducing its environmental footprint to actively regenerating marine ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity and supporting the global goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030. Together with Vellmarí, Marina Ibiza demostrates how marinas can become drivers of positive change for the Mediterranean.
