The UK's First BREEAM-Certified Marina Network for Sustainable Marine Infrastructure
MDL Marinas leads marine sustainability as the UK's only marina operator to adapt BREEAM - the world's oldest sustainability certification - specifically for marina environments. Our pioneering approach addresses emissions reduction, material circularity, eco-design innovation, and marine ecosystem protection.
We have implemented comprehensive measures including: LED lighting conversion, EV charging infrastructure at multiple sites, water-efficient fixtures with leak detection, responsible timber sourcing, waste monitoring and recycling strategies, and specialised boat wash filtration protecting water courses.
Our framework covers nine categories: Management, Health & Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use & Ecology, and Pollution control. This systematic approach delivers measurable environmental improvements whilst maintaining operational excellence across our 18-marina network.
We demonstrate that marina operations can be commercially successful whilst actively protecting marine ecosystems and promoting circular economy principles.
