Sustainable Water Management at Varador 2000

At Varador 2000, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint across all areas of our business. Based just north of Barcelona, we operate a state-of-the-art shipyard in Arenys de Mar and a professional marina in Mataró, serving the yachting industry with over 40 years of expertise.

Aware of the high freshwater consumption involved in yacht maintenance, we implemented a pioneering desalination system that transforms seawater from the port into freshwater for hull cleaning — eliminating reliance on conventional potable sources.

Fully integrated into our daily operations, this system allowed us to reduce freshwater use by 15% between October 2023 and March 2024. This is part of a broader sustainability strategy supported by EMAS and ISO 14001 certifications for environmental management, alongside ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and AEO certifications.

Our commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility reflects the principles of the Blue Economy. Backed by GALP Costa Brava Sud-Maresme and FEMPA, the desalination project is a model we aim to replicate in other environmentally conscious ports.
