Baglietto is a 172-year-old italian shipyard that specialises in the construction of planing aluminium yachts ranging between 38 and 50m in length and steel & aluminium displacement and semi-displacement mega-yachts of 40 metres and above. Baglietto currently relies on the production sites of La Spezia (headquarters) and Carrara (operating site). The first one was recently renovated with three new sheds destined to the construction of yachts of up to 65m and fully-equipped quays, to moor vessels of up to 70m. The operating site in Carrara is used to build military crafts with the BAGLIETTO NAVY brand, and the DOM133 line.
BZero is Baglietto’s project to implement a green hydrogen production module on its yachts. Using filtered and deionized seawater, BZERO is capable of producing grade 5.0 hydrogen at a maximum pressure of 35 bar. This is achieved through a system of AEM electrolyzers (for a total power of approximately 55 kW), powered primarily by energy from renewable sources.A prototype is already installed at the shipyard, and it is used to develop onboard operating procedures, optimize technical aspects, and obtain the necessary maritime certifications required to operate the system and independently refuel the hydrogen tanks, either autonomously or from external sources. This approach addresses the current lack of infrastructure on one hand, while speeding up refueling times on the other. Particular attention is given to safety and control aspects, which will be ensured by the Classification Society RINA, overseeing and validating each phase of the implementation process through to the final system certification.
