THE 2008 NYMPHENBURG/MONACO
YACHT SHOW DESIGN PRIZE
goes to the sail yacht NIRVANA built by VITTERS |

Monaco, 26 September
2008: HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, HRH Prince
Luitpold of Bavaria and Luc Pettavino, organiser
of the Monaco Yacht Show, awarded the 2008 Design
Prize to the sail yacht Nirvana built
by Vitters.
The 18th Monaco Yacht Show's Design Prize has recompensed
the sail yacht Nirvana (53 metres, launched in 2007
by the Dutch Vitters Shipyard) for its elegant contemporary
design by Dubois Naval Architects in collaboration
with Spanish designer Josep Juanpere Miret.
The predominant horizontal lines of its furnishings
coupled with the warmth of the materials and diverse
textures employed in its interior design create strikingly
contrasting plays on light.
Since 2003 the Design Prize has highlighted the
partnership between German porcelain manufacturer
Nymphenburg and the Monaco Yacht Show; each year
it singles out the yacht with the most innovative,
elegant and distinguished design at the show.
The trophy is an artwork created by New York designer
Ted Muehling whose pieces feature in the German porcelain
manufacturer's contemporary collection.
Nymphenburg was founded by the Bavarian Royal Family
in Munich in 1747 and today symbolises a 260-year-old
tradition of manufacturing handcrafted porcelain.
For more than 60 years the manufacturer has been
creating porcelain items for yachts and the company
is now strengthening its connections with luxury
yachting by manufacturing bespoke pieces in collaboration
with naval architects, interior designers and renowned
artists.
