The Monaco Yacht Show commitments
If the Monaco Yacht Show has established itself as a major economic and media player for the Principality of Monaco, it also constitutes an important vector to support the environmental and medical actions of the country.
Supporting the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies (since 2001) and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (since 2010), the MYS intends to defend the ethical and human values shared by its Organisers and the Informa Group towards the superyachting community.
l’Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies
The Monaco Yacht Show supports the Monaco-based Charity Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies (AMM) since its creation in 2001.
AMM was created by parents of children suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who decided to support progress on scientific and medical research.
Although research has progressed significantly over the last ten years, notably with the tremendous gains in genetic therapy and thanks to the efforts of charity organisations, there remains a lot to do in order to find a cure for these children. The Monaco Yacht Show supports the AMM by giving a financial donation every year and co-organising the Only Watch biannual auction, of which 100% of the funds collected are given to the charity.
On November 7, 2015 in Geneva, the 6th edition of Only Watch collected € 10,450,000 for the sales of 44 lots of one-off pieces of luxury watches especially created by the world’s finest watchmakers. The next edition of Only Watch will be organised in November 2017.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
While the MYS was committed to international green projects since 2005, the Organisers decided to join forces with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in 2010 and launch the Wood Forever Pact within the framework of the initiative “Monaco makes a commitment against deforestation”.
The aim is to involve the yachting community, professionals and clients alike, private actors to only use wood certified as originating from sustainably-managed forests: a movement already adopted by a few yards, aiming at linking the building and interior design of the yacht to a sustainable forest management in order to stem and stop deforestation.
On the occasion of the official visit of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco at the Monaco Yacht Show, the Organisers give a donation to His Foundation to support the development of the Wood Forever Pact (€ 47,000 donated in 2016).
« I decided to set up a Foundation whose purpose is to protect the environment and to encourage sustainable development (...).
By definition, this is a common global challenge that requires urgent and concrete action in response to three major environmental issues: climate change, biodiversity and water. »
